Men’s Basketball Struggles Continue on the Road at Ithaca

Ithaca, NY – EC Men's Basketball traveled to Ithaca, NY to take on the number 22 nationally ranked Bombers of Ithaca College in Empire 8 action.  The Soaring Eagles were still looking to find their first Empire 8 win of the season while Ithaca looked to stay atop the E8.

 

The Soaring Eagles got out to a slow start to today's game as the Bombers jumped out to an early 22-5 lead.  EC would go on a run of their own as rookie Josh Keys '14 (Bel Air, MD -- CM Wright) would stroke four three pointers to spark Elmira's 14-to-2 run, bringing EC to within 5 points of Ithaca. The Bombers would settle into a groove, finishing the half strong by outscoring Elmira 23-to-11 bringing the halftime score to 47-30. 

 

Elmira would struggle in the second half as Ithaca would force their will on the Soaring Eagles, leading to a 101-67 in favor of the Bombers.  EC was led offensively by Keys would finished with 18 points in an effort off the bench.  Fourth year player Zach Simpson '11 (Savona, NY -- Campbell-Savona) had a good showing as he put up 15 points and grabbed another 8 boards while fellow classmate Bobby DiPiazza '11 (Wyckoff, NJ -- Bergen Catholic) totaled 7 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists.

 

Up next for the Soaring Eagles Men's Basketball team is E8 foe Hartwick College Hawks.  EC will host the Hawks on Friday, January 21st at the Speidel Gymnasium in Elmira, NY.  Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
