Soaring Eagles Lose A Heartbreaker

Elmira, NY – The Elmira College Women's Tennis team lost a hard fought match today against the Cardinals of St. John Fisher College, 6-3. EC put up a tough fight laying all they had on the line, but just falling short of the win.

Doubles started off very well for the Purple and Gold with Alex Putney '12 (Dundee, NY -- Hammondsport) and Bri Palmiero '12 (Rochester, NY -- Bishop Kearney) winning fairly easily 8-3. Third doubles team Kayla Fitzgerald '15 (Thomaston, CT -- Thomaston) and Elyse Colby '12 (Owego, NY -- Coronado) showed true heart today coming from behind to win 9-7.

In singles play, the Cardinals got the best of the battle winning five out of the six matches.  The lone win for the Soaring Eagles was Melanie Walker '13 (Scranton, PA -- Scranton) who dominated her way to the win 6-1, 6-0. Putting up great fights were Micah Moskoff '14 (Somerset, MA -- Somerset) and Fitzgerald. Moskoff and Fitzgerald both showed greatness in the first set, but their opponents would eventually wear them down to lose in three sets.

EC Women's Tennis returns to action Tuesday, October 4th as they travel to take on the Oswego State Lakers at 4:00 p.m. in a good non-conference battle.
