Elmira, NY -- EC Women's Tennis earned another win to their remarkable season Tuesday afternoon defeating the Oswego State Lakers 7-2. The Soaring Eagles dominated the doubles play. Amy Schmidt '15 (Batavia, NY -- Batavia) and Melanie Walker '13 (Scranton, PA -- Scranton) led the way with an 8-0 win at second doubles. Kayla Fitzgerald '15 (Thomaston, CT – Thomaston) and Elyse Colby '12 (Owego, NY -- Coronado) followed quickly with the 8-1 win at third doubles. Lastly, Alex Putney '12 (Dundee, NY -- Hammondsport) and Bri Palmiero '12 (Rochester, NY -- Bishop Kearney) wrapped up the doubles with an 8-4 win at first.
In singles, EC controlled almost every match and made sure to secure the win after winning all three doubles matches. Schmidt was the first to finish and played outstandingly not giving up a single game at the second singles spot 6-0, 6-0. Putney clinched the match for the Purple and Gold winning at fourth singles 6-0, 6-2. Playing a great match at one singles was Palmiero winning her tightly fought match 6-1, 3-6, 7-6(10-8). Also fighting well was Micah Moskoff '14 (Somerset, MA -- Somerset) at sixth singles winning her hard fought match 7-6(7-4), 6-3.
Elmira will look for another chance to win against non-conference opponent SUNY Brockport tomorrow Wednesday, October 5th at 4:00 p.m. at the Murray Athletics Center.
