Late Run by Hawks Sinks Men’s Basketball, 83-66

Oneonta, NY – The Elmira College Men's Basketball team took on Hartwick College in EC's final regular season game.  EC was looking to bounce back after dropping a tough one the night before to Stevens Tech.

Hartwick had it going on early as they went up 14-to-5 on Elmira in the first four minutes of play.  EC would settle into the flow of the game as they cut the Hartwick lead to one point as the Soaring Eagles went on an 8-0 run.  The Hawks would build up another sizable lead as the pushed their lead to 13 points but EC would finish the half strong, leaving the halftime score at 46-39.   Credit Bobby DiPiazza '11 (Wyckoff, NJ -- Bergen Catholic) for keeping Elmira in the first half as he netted 16 first half points. 

In the second half Hartwick built up a 15 point lead with 10 minutes remaining.  Elmira would go on a 12-2 run to bring the score back to within 5 points.  The Hawks would play stifling defense to end the game as Elmira was outscored 16-to-4 to conclude the contest.

DiPiazza had a solid game as he finished with 22 points and 9 points.  Zach Simpson '11 (Savona, NY -- Campbell-Savona) and Josh Keys '14 (Bel Air, MD -- CM Wright) combined for 24 points.  With the loss Elmira concludes the 2010-11 season with an overall record of 2-23 and 1-15 in the Empire 8.
