Men’s Tennis Stumbles against Red Dragons, 8-1

Pine Valley, NY -- The EC Men's Tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to the visiting Red Dragons of SUNY Oneonta.  Elmira would claim one of three doubles matches but were unable to capture a singles victory as the Red Dragons took all six.

In doubles play the combination of Gabe Cortes '11 (Miami, FL -- Miami Country Day School) and Eric Klinedinst '12 (York, PA -- Northeastern) earned their first victory of the 2011 spring season.  The duo would compete at the first position and would roll as they cruised to an 8-3 decision.  Cortes would drop his serve to start the match but the doubles combo would rally for 6 straight games, giving them a 6-1 advantage.  Each team would hold serve two times as Elmira would claim the 8-3 win.

In singles action Klinedinst played a very competitive match at the first position, falling 6-3, 6-2.  Steffan Waters '13 (Elmira, NY -- Elmira Free Academy) would play a tight one as he lost a close one at 6-3, 6-3.  Rookie Sam Pine '14 (Elmira Heights, NY -- Thomas Edison) dropped his first set at the fifth position at love before making the second interesting, falling only by a break at 6-3.

The EC Men will have a quick turnaround as they host the Lakers of SUNY Oswego tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. at the Murray Athletics Center.
