Pine Valley, NY -- The EC Men's Tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to the visiting Red Dragons of SUNY Oneonta. Elmira would claim one of three doubles matches but were unable to capture a singles victory as the Red Dragons took all six.
In doubles play the combination of Gabe Cortes '11 (Miami, FL -- Miami Country Day School) and Eric Klinedinst '12 (York, PA -- Northeastern) earned their first victory of the 2011 spring season. The duo would compete at the first position and would roll as they cruised to an 8-3 decision. Cortes would drop his serve to start the match but the doubles combo would rally for 6 straight games, giving them a 6-1 advantage. Each team would hold serve two times as Elmira would claim the 8-3 win.
In singles action Klinedinst played a very competitive match at the first position, falling 6-3, 6-2. Steffan Waters '13 (Elmira, NY -- Elmira Free Academy) would play a tight one as he lost a close one at 6-3, 6-3. Rookie Sam Pine '14 (Elmira Heights, NY -- Thomas Edison) dropped his first set at the fifth position at love before making the second interesting, falling only by a break at 6-3.
The EC Men will have a quick turnaround as they host the Lakers of SUNY Oswego tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. at the Murray Athletics Center.
