Men’s Tennis Routs SUNY Oswego, 8-1

Pine Valley, NY -- The Soaring Eagles Men's Tennis team took on visiting SUNY Oswego in a non-conference match.  Elmira looked to bounce back after yesterday's loss while Oswego was playing their first spring match of the season.

In doubles action Elmira controlled and claimed all three matches.  At first doubles Gabe Cortes '11 (Miami, FL -- Miami Country Day School) and Eric Klinedinst '12 (York, PA -- Northeastern) won their second doubles match in as many days.  Gorav Simlote '13 (Syracuse, NY -- Jamesville-Dewitt) and Sam Pine '14 (Elmira Heights, NY -- Thomas Edison) would pick up Elmira's second point of the evening as they won at third doubles, 8-2.  Second doubles combo Ryan Patterson '11 (Brattleboro, VT -- Brattleboro Union) and Steffan Waters '13 (Elmira, NY -- Elmira Free Academy) earned an 8-4 victory to seal all three doubles matches in favor of the Soaring Eagles. 

In singles action Cortes and Klinedinst each picked up 6-0, 6-0 victories at first and second singles respectively.  With these two wins Elmira officially earned their second with of the season. 

Elmira would get their sixth point of the day as Simlote rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 outcome at fourth singles.  Patterson would finish next, winning 6-1, 6-2.  Waters would follow suit, winning his match as well at the fifth position, 6-2, 6-1. 

Oswego would claim their lone point at the sixth position, giving Elmira an 8-1 victory.  With the win Elmira improves to 2-1 this season and will look to make it 3 as they open E8 play this Sunday against St. John Fisher College.  Match-time is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Fisher Courts in Pittsford, NY.
