EC Drops a Pair of One-Run Games to #28 Ithaca

Ithaca, NY -- Elmira College Softball wrapped up a double header today against Ithaca College.  Today's games were resumed after play was halted due to inclement weather on Tuesday the 26th.  Elmira was edged in both games against the #28 nationally ranked Bombers of Ithaca, 3-2 and 2-1.

Game one resumed play in the fifth inning with Elmira at bat with runners on first and second.  Unfortunately EC would ground into a double play to end the inning abruptly.  In the remaining two innings Ithaca would allow only one runner to reach base and would close the game with a 1-2-3 inning in the 7th for a 3-2 win.   In the game Elmira scored their only two runs in the top of the first inning as Stephany Fontinell '11 (Shoreham, NY -- Islip) and Erin Rupell '11 (Lehighton, PA -- Lehighton) drove in runs.

Just like in game two, Elmira would start the game off by scoring in the first inning as Taryn Rumsey '14 (Mansfield, PA -- Mansfield) scored on and RBI by Jackie Gibson '11 (Jersey Shore, PA -- Jersey Shore Area).   Ithaca would respond at the bottom of the inning, scoring 2 runs.  This would prove to be enough as Ithaca went on to win the second game of the double header, 2-1.  Casandra Fontinell '11 (Shoreham, NY -- Islip) was issued the loss as she tossed 6 innings of 2-run ball, one of which being unearned.

With the loss Elmira drops to 5-11 overall and 3-7 in E8 play.  EC will have little time to rest as they host the Tigers of RIT in a crucial Empire 8 double header tomorrow, April 29th.  The opening pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. at Eldridge Park in Elmira, NY.
