Men’s Basketball Falls to Fisher 65-52

Elmira, NY – The Elmira College Men's Basketball team fell to visiting St. John Fisher College, 65-52, Friday evening in Speidel Gymnasium. The win improves the Cardinals to 10-9 overall and 3-5 in Empire 8 play, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 0-18 overall and 0-8 in conference competition.

Elmira led 5-4 early, but Fisher used a 14-5 run to take an 18-9 lead midway through the first half. The Cardinals extended their lead to as many as 11, leading 33-22 at intermission. Dan O'Brien '14 (Oneonta, NY -- Oneonta) led Elmira with seven points in the opening stanza, while Jason Norsen carried Fisher with 11 points.

The Cardinals extended their lead to as many as 19 in the second half, as they led 60-41 with 5:13 remaining. The Purple and Gold were unable to handle Fisher inside, as the Cardinals dominated 22-12 in points in the paint and outrebounded Elmira 31-22.

Chris Cassidy '14 (Colts Neck, NJ -- Colts Neck) led Elmira in scoring with 14 points. O'Brien tallied 13 points, while Neil Randoph '15 (Wicklow, Ireland -- Presentation) added nine points, shooting 3-for-4 from downtown. Jordan Gettings led Fisher with 21 points, six rebounds and six assists. Norsen tallied 18 points, six rebounds and six blocks, while Justin Plata added 10 points.

The Elmira College Men's Basketball team returns to action tomorrow when it hosts conference foe Nazareth at 4:00 p.m. in Speidel Gymnasium.
