Men’s Basketball Struggles to Find Offense in Loss to Stevens

Elmira, NY – The Elmira College Men's Basketball team's offense struggled as it fell to visiting Stevens Institute of Technology, 80-44, Saturday afternoon at Speidel Gymnasium. The win improves the Ducks to 10-2 overall and 2-0 in Empire 8 play, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 0-12 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Elmira led briefly at 3-2 after a Zak Kumor '14 (Newtown, PA -- Pennsbury) three-pointer but then the visiting Ducks blew the game open as they shot 53 percent from the field and 46 percent from distance in the first half to open up a 46-22 halftime lead. Stevens controlled the glass as they outrebounded EC 23-11 on the boards and had 11 offensive rebounds.

EC remained tough in the second half but was unable to mount a comeback attempt, as Stevens increased its lead in the second half as both teams' reserves saw action. Chris Cassidy '14 (Colts Neck, NJ -- Colts Neck) led the Elmira attack with 13 points as he shot 60 percent from the field. Kumor and Tyler Dibble '14 (Stamford, NY -- Jefferson) gave the Purple and Gold a lift off the bench as they registered eight points apiece. The Ducks placed three players in double figures as Mike Cutri, Sheldon Jones and Simon Smith tallied 19, 15, and 13 points, respectively.

The Elmira College Men's Basketball team returns to action one week from today as they travel to Rochester to take on St. John Fisher for 8:00 p.m. tilt.
