Men’s Hockey Downed by Oswego State in First Game

Oswego, NY – The EC Men's Hockey was downed Saturday evening by the Oswego State University Lakers, 9-0, at the Oswego Campus Center Ice Arena. The Lakers improve to 2-0 overall, while the Soaring Eagles fall to 0-1 overall.  

The Lakers used its veteran experience to dominate the game early scoring five goals in the first period. Matt Singleton started the scoring with a shorthanded goal at the 9:54 mark and Zach Josepher assisted on the play. Paul Rodrigues registered the second goal at the 11:44 mark with Luke Moodie and Nick Rivait assisting on the play. Less than one minute later Tyler Leimbrock recorded a goal and Chris Muise assisted on the goal. Rodrigues then scored two more goals at the 14:18 and 16:54 minute marks to give Oswego the 5-0 lead going into intermission. 

Period two went a little smoother for the Soaring Eagles as they fought well and held the Laker offense to one goal. At the 7:10 mark Moodie converted his first goal of the game with Rodrigues and Tim Carr assisting. The Soaring Eagles got more opportunities to score, but could not convert any shots into goals. In the third period Oswego continued to stretch its lead and dominate the Soaring Eagles. Moodie, Leimbrock and Rodrigues each scored a goal in the period helping the Lakers earn its second win of the season.

All three goalies split time in net for EC. Darren MacDonald '13 played the first 12:30 and registered eight saves. Matt Milne '14 stepped in next for about 35 minutes and recorded 19 saves, while Ryan deMelo '15 played the last 12:30 and noted 16 saves. Andrew Hare played in net for Oswego recording his first shutout of the year and registering 26 saves.  

The Soaring Eagles will return to action Friday, November 2nd and Saturday, November 3rd when it hosts rival Neumann University in a conference showdown at the Murray Athletic Center. Both games are set to start at 7:00 p.m.
