Fredonia, NY – Chris Cassidy '14 and
Kurt Dutcher '14 put up double figures for the Soaring Eagles, but it would not be enough as the EC Men's Basketball team fell, 75-60, to the Fredonia State University Blue Devils at Stelle Hall. The Blue Devils improve to 2-2 on the season, while the Soaring Eagles fall to 0-3.
To start off the game the Soaring Eagles played sharp going on a 15-7 run within the first seven minutes. EC remained on top until the 14:23 mark when Amir Billups hit a jumper to give Fredonia a 24-23 lead. Although the Soaring Eagles were able to fight back and regain the lead, Fredonia was able to go on an 8-2 run in the last two minutes to go up 36-32 at the break. Classmates

Derrick Vogel '14 all played well scoring 20 of the teams 32 points in the half.
In the beginning of the second half both teams continued to battle with the Blue Devils remaining on top. With about nine minutes left in the game Fredonia stepped up its game and stretched out its lead reaching as many as 17 points. The Soaring Eagles cut into the lead several times, but in the end the Blue Devils were able to stay on top.
Cassidy led the Soaring Eagles with 16 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Dutcher was outstanding putting up 10 points and getting seven boards, while
Vogel was key in the backcourt recording nine points, four assists and four boards. Although the Soaring Eagles were able to control on the boards, the Blue Devils gained the edge in steals, free-throw shooting percentage and caused turnovers.
The Purple and Gold will return to action Friday, November 30th and Saturday, December 1st as they hit the road for more non-conference action. Friday they will take on Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY at 8:00 p.m. Saturday they will take on St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY at 4:00 p.m.
