Pittsford, NY – Despite a career-high 18 points from
Neil Randolph '15 the Elmira College Men's Basketball team struggled to score the basketball falling to host St. John Fisher, 52-43, Friday evening. The win improves the Cardinals to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 0-7 overall and 0-2 in Empire 8 competition.
Fisher led by as many as nine in the opening half but Elmira closed within 26-22 at intermission. EC scored the first bucket out of halftime as
Randolph drained one of his three makes on the night from downtown to get within 26-25.
Over the next 10:38 the Cardinals held Elmira without a point as they went on a torrid 16-0 spurt to blow open a 42-25 lead. After Fisher extended its lead to as many as 18 the Purple and Gold hung tough battling back within eight at 49-41 with 3:27 remaining. Despite the great effort EC was unable to get any closer as Fisher held on for the 52-43 victory.
Randolph was the only Elmira player to finish in double figures with 18 points. Jason Norsen led the Cardinals as the only double digit scorer finishing with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
EC shot 38 percent from three-point range as a team in the contest, including a 43 percent mark in the second half. The Soaring Eagles held a big 23-11 edge in points off turnovers. Meanwhile, Fisher got a big lift form its bench outscoring its counterparts 23-13.
The Men's Basketball team has just over a week off before it travels to Hamburg, NY on Saturday, December 15th for a 3:00 p.m. tilt with Hilbert College.
