Oneonta, NY – The Elmira College Men's Basketball team fell on the road to Hartwick College, 59-52, Saturday afternoon at Lambros Arena. The loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 0-22 overall and 0-11 in Empire 8 play, while the win improves the Hawks to 20-2 overall and 9-2 in conference competition.
Neither team led by more than five points in the opening half as Elmira's biggest lead was four, while the Hawks led by as many as five. Hartwick carried a slim, 30-28 advantage into intermission.
Josh Keys '14 (Bel Air, MD -- CM Wright) led Elmira with nine points, while Jared Suderley led the Hawks with 12 points.
The game remained close in the second half as Elmira narrowed the deficit to just one on numerous occasions. EC trailed by two with 5:20 remaining at 48-46, but the Hartwick defense shut down the Soaring Eagle offense. The Hawks outscored EC 11-6 down the stretch to hold on for the 59-52 win.
Keys led Elmira with 14 points, while
Dan O'Brien '14 (Oneonta, NY -- Oneonta) and
Chris Cassidy '14 (Colts Neck, NJ -- Colts Neck) added 10 points apiece. Suderley led the Hawks with 25 points and eight rebounds and Chris Ryder tallied 15 points and seven boards.
The Elmira College Men's Basketball team returns to action Friday when it hosts Ithaca College at 8:00 p.m. in Speidel Gymnasium on Athletics Alumni Weekend.
