Men’s Tennis Plays Hard Against Red Dragons

Pine Valley, NY -- The EC Men's Tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to the visiting Red Dragons of SUNY Oneonta Wednesday evening at the Murray Athletic Center. Elmira played hard in the match, but Oneonta was too strong for the Soaring Eagle line up. The Red Dragons improve to 6-2 on the season, while the Soaring Eagles fall to 0-1.

In doubles play the combination of George Smith '13 (Watseka, IL -- Granite City) and Michael Dewitt '11 (Queensbury, NY -- Queensbury) played very well and proved to be a tough act to take down for the Red Dragons falling 8-3. At first and second doubles the Red Dragons demonstrated its strength winning both 8-0.

In singles action Smith and Steffan Waters '13 (Elmira, NY -- Elmira Free Academy) played very well taking almost every game to deuce. Both would lose in identical scores of 6-1, 6-2 but showed much promise for the Soaring Eagles this early in the season. Also battling at first singles was Eric Klinedinst '12 (York, PA -- Northeastern) who fought for every point putting his heart and soul into the match before eventually falling 6-2, 6-0.
