Elmira, NY – The Elmira College Softball team lost two straight to visiting St. Lawrence University, 4-1 and 8-5, Wednesday afternoon at Eldridge Park Stadium. The wins improve the Saints to 11-3, while the losses drop the Soaring Eagles to 4-2.
In Game 1 EC struggled to find its offense scoring only one run in second inning with
Shannon Nelligan '14 (Poughquag, NY -- Canterbury) scoring and
Gillian Gravel '14 (Manchester, NH -- Trinity) driving her in. The Saints capitalized on their offensive opportunities scoring two runs in the second, sixth and seventh innings.
Sarah Johnson '15 (Sodus, NY -- Sodus) started at the mound in game one giving up seven hits and one earned runs in seven innings.
In game two the Elmira looked to battle back tough and split the series at one apiece, but the Saints offense proved to be too strong several runs in the fifth inning. EC went down 8-2 in the bottom of the seventh with not much hope in their eyes. However
Johnson, Krystal Bupp '14 (Bellmawr, NJ -- Triton Regional), Mikayla Bean '14 (Williamson, NY -- Williamson), Katie Dore '15 (Manchester, ME -- Maranacook) and
Jaclyn Heinz '15 (Staten Island, NY – Moore Catholic) led the team back to score three final runs before the Saints held off for the victory.
Katie Hobson '13 (Guilford, CT -- Guilford) started in game two from the rubber going seven innings earning four strikeouts and giving up two doubles.
The Elmira College Softball team returns to action Saturday, March 31
st when it travels to Utica College for its first conference doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
