Elmira, NY -- The EC Men's Tennis team fell to Stevens Institute of Technology 9-0 Sunday afternoon at the Murray Athletic Center. Although Elmira fought hard throughout the match the Ducks controlled the tempo from the start and cruised to another conference victory. The Ducks improve to 7-5 overall and 6-0 in the Empire 8, while the Soaring Eagles fall to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
EC struggled at first only able to get a couple of games during doubles action.
Eric Klinedinst '12 (York, PA -- Northeastern) and
Steffan Waters '13 (Elmira, NY -- Elmira Free Academy) battled at first doubles losing 8-1, while
Gorav Simlote '13 (Syracuse, NY -- Jamesville-Dewitt) and
Sam Pine '14 (Elmira, NY -- Thomas Edison) fought tough at second doubles before losing 8-3.
George Smith '13 (Watseka, IL -- Granite City) and
Dylan Christman '15 (Wellsboro, PA -- Wellsboro), at third doubles, played well in the beginning, but struggled near the end resulting in an 8-3 loss.
Christman and
Waters showed the most hope for EC playing tough at fourth and sixth singles.
Christman played well falling down early, but battling back before falling 6-4, 6-1, while
Waters battled tough not giving up on any points eventually losing 6-2, 6-2.
The EC Men's Tennis team will return to action Wednesday, April 18
th when it travels to Keuka College in non-conference action. Match set to start at 4:00 p.m.
