Williamsport, PA – The Elmira College Softball team split a pair of games losing the first game, 5-0, but responding with a 6-0 win in the second game Wednesday afternoon in Williamsport. The split improves the Soaring Eagles to 7-7 overall, while the Warriors move to 9-20.
In Game 1 both teams played the first three innings scoreless, before the Warriors scored a run each in the fourth and fifth innings before tacking on three insurance runs in the sixth inning. Holly Lansberry pitched a four hit shutout for Lycoming striking out six batters.
Sarah Johnson '15 (Sodus, NY -- Sodus) pitched four and one-third innings giving up seven hits and one earned run, while
Katie Hobson '13 (Guilford, CT -- Guilford) pitch one ant two-thirds innings giving up three hits and three earned runs.
In Game 2
Hobson pitched a complete game shutout giving up just five hits and striking out three batters. EC got off to a quick start scoring three runs in the first two innings, and later added three runs in the fifth inning for the 6-0 victory.
Katie Dore '15 (Manchester, ME -- Maranacook),
Shannon Nelligan '14 (Poughquag, NY -- Canterbury) and
Gillian Gravel '14 (Manchester, NH -- Trinity) led the Soaring Eagle offense each contributing two hits apiece, while
Dore knocked in two runs.
The EC Softball team returns to action tomorrow as it travels to Alfred, NY to take on the Saxons of Alfred University in a doubleheader. Game 1 starts at 3:00 p.m.
