Oswego, NY -- The Elmira College Men's Tennis team cruised in its final contest of the 2012 season against the Lakers of Oswego State University, 7-2, Saturday afternoon at Romney Tennis Courts. The Soaring Eagles finish at 4-7 overall, while the Lakers fall to 2-7 overall.
The Purple and Gold were able to control the match from the start earning two out three doubles points at first and second doubles. The Lakers were able to close out the third doubles match late, 8-6, after
George Smith '13 (Watseka, IL -- Granite City) and
Dylan Christman '15 (Wellsboro, PA -- Wellsboro) started to come together.
In singles action EC soared high dropping eight total games from
Smith, Christman, Eric Klinedinst '12 (York, PA -- Northeastern) and
Gorav Simlote '13 (Syracuse, NY -- Jamesville-Dewitt) combined.
Sam Pine '14 (Elmira, NY -- Thomas Edison), at the third singles spot, easily prevailed in the first set but struggled in the second set forcing to play a third set. In the third set he was able to regroup and take back the momentum to win 6-0, 5-7, 6-2. Oswego was able to fight at the fourth singles spot and take the win 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 for its final team point.
