Elmira, NY – The EC Softball team fell in its final two regular season games to Nazareth College, 5-2 and 9-5, Sunday afternoon at Eldridge Park Stadium. The wins improve the Golden Flyers to 12-26 overall and 3-9 in conference, while the losses move the Soaring Eagles to 8-16 overall and 1-11 in conference.
In game one the Golden Flyers started off well scoring one run in top of the first inning and holding the Soaring Eagles to just two hits. In the top of the fifth inning the Golden Flyers took advantage of its opportunities being led by Liz Toner and Brittany Patenaude. EC was able to finally get on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning when
Alex Andrade '13 (Fairhaven, MA -- Bishop Strong) hit a RBI single down the left field line scoring
Katie Dore '15 (Manchester, ME -- Maranacook) and
Erin Pruess '12 (Glens Falls, NY -- Glens Falls). However, Nazareth was able to hold off Elmira late and prevail to a 5-2 victory. Kelly Kocher earned the win for Nazareth giving up four hits, while striking out 12 batters.
Katie Hobson '13 (Guilford, CT -- Guilford) pitched a complete game for EC giving up nine hits and two walks, while striking out eight batters.
In game two the Soaring Eagles started off well from the plate with
Dore scoring in the bottom of the first inning. However, the Golden Flyers came alive in the top of the second scoring six runs to take a 6-1 lead. Later in the fifth inning Nazareth was able to score another three insurance runs. EC tried to fight back scoring four more runs, but the Golden Flyers stayed strong to win 9-5. Corrin Spallone earned the win for Nazareth giving up six hits and one walk, while striking out seven.
Sarah Johnson '15 (Sodus, NY -- Sodus) and
Hobson split time on the mound for EC.
Johnson pitched the first four innings giving up eight hits and striking out four batters, while
Hobson pitched the final three innings giving up three hits and striking out three batters.
Dore led EC on the day hitting 3-for-6 from the plate and scoring three runs.
Andrade also had an impressive day getting two hits, four RBI's and scoring a run.
