Men’s Tennis Suffers Tough Loss to Cardinals

Elmira, NY -- The EC Men's Tennis team lost a tough conference match to the Cardinals of St. John Fisher College, 6-3, Tuesday afternoon at the Murray Athletic Center. The Cardinals improve to 2-8 overall and 1-1 in Empire 8 play, while the Soaring Eagles fall to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in conference action.
 
In the beginning EC was down 2-0 forfeiting third doubles and sixth singles. However, the Soaring Eagles did not quit giving it their all. The first point came at first doubles with Eric Klinedinst '12 (York, PA -- Northeastern) and Steffan Waters '13 (Elmira, NY -- Elmira Free Academy) playing outstanding and closing the match out late 8-5. Gorav Simlote '13 (Syracuse, NY -- Jamesville-Dewitt) and Sam Pine '14 (Elmira, NY -- Thomas Edison), at second doubles, played very hard but were not able to close out late falling 8-6.
 
In singles action Elmira played outstanding giving the Cardinals many worries. Klinedinst played astonishing cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at first singles. Waters, at fourth singles, also played well pulling off a great win 6-3, 6-4. Simlote and Pine battled tough at second and third singles, but both ultimately fell in straight sets. Last to play was George Smith '13 (Watseka, IL -- Granite City) who also played great losing a tight two set match 6-4, 6-2.
 
The EC Men's Tennis team will return to action Thursday, April 5that home facing conference foe Alfred University at 4:00 p.m.
