Utica, NY – The Elmira College Women's Tennis team won its second straight match of the season beating the Pioneers of Utica College, 8-1, Saturday afternoon. The Soaring Eagles improve to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the Empire 8 conference, while the Pioneers fall to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in conference action.
In doubles action, the Purple and Gold dominated at first and third doubles only dropping three total games. The Pioneers were able to earn their only point at second doubles just beating out
Kayla Fitzgerald '15 and
Stephanie Tock '16 8-5.
The Soaring Eagles were able to dictate play in four of the six singles matches with
Micah Moskoff '14 and
Ellen Plowman '16 winning by identical scores 6-0, 6-0.
Tock and
Melanie Walker '13 had two close matches both going three sets. At third singles,
Tock was able to win a tight first set, 7-5, but dropped a close second set, 5-7. After falling in the second set she was able to recollect herself and win in the third set tiebreaker 10-7.
Walker, at the first singles spot, started off slow losing a late first set 5-7. However, she was able to regain control in the second set, 6-1, and carry her momentum to win the third set, 6-1.
The Purple and Gold will return to action Tuesday, September 18
th when they travel to Roberts Wesleyan College starting at 4:00 p.m.
