Elmira, NY -- Coming off a big home win the night before, the Elmira College Men's Basketball team looked to get back into the Empire 8 playoff picture with an upset over visiting Steven's Institute of Technology. Their attempt fell short as they fell, 64-48, Saturday afternoon in Speidel Gymnasium. The win moves the Ducks to 15-3 overall and 6-2 in the Empire 8, while the loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 5-14 overall and 2-6 in the Empire 8.
The two teams traded leads back-and-forth early but with about 13 minutes left, the Ducks went on a run. Stevens took advantage of cold shooting from the Soaring Eagles to close the half on a 23-5 run and head into the locker room leading 32-12. The Soaring Eagles shot 17 percent from the floor and seven percent from three in the first half while the Ducks shot 40 percent from the floor and a blistering 58 percent from three.
The Soaring Eagles started the second half strong offensively and slowly chipped away at the lead, however, the Ducks proved to be too much for them. After Elmira cut the lead to 12 with just over nine minutes to play, Stevens responded by again going on a run to take back control of the game. The Ducks increased their lead to 22 over the next five minutes and coasted to a 64-48 victory.
