Men's Basketball Brings Momentum into Conference Tilt at Alfred Tonight


Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College Men's Basketball team hits the road to take on Empire 8 conference foe Alfred University tonight at 8:00 p.m. Below is all the information you will need to get ready for tonight's contest.

Last Time Out: The Elmira College Men's Basketball team picked up its first win of the season Thursday at home against non-conference foe Oberlin College, 64-58. EC was able to dominate Oberlin in points off turnovers (24-6), bench points (19-0) and points in the paint (32-28).
 

Where We Sit: The Soaring Eagles (0-2 E8) currently sit ahead of Alfred (0-3 E8) in the conference standings. A win tonight will give EC its first conference win of the young season and move the team into contention in the standings.


Who's Hot: Derrick Vogel '14 finished with a career high 16 points along with four steals, two assists and a rebound against Oberlin College. The junior guard finished 6-for-9 from the field, while draining two out of his three attempts from long distance.
 


Consistent Cassidy: Chris Cassidy '14 has scored in double digits in every contest except one this season where he got in foul trouble and played just 18 minutes. He ranks sixth in the conference in scoring at 15.4 per game. Over the last four contests the junior is averaging 19.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per outing.
 

Scouting Alfred: Alfred enters tonight's contest 2-9 overall and 0-3 in Empire 8 play. The Saxons are coming off back-to-back losses against Ithaca and Utica. Against the Bombers Jason Ruback '14 pumped in a game-high 26 points. He shot 10-for-15 from the floor, 2-for-3 from distance, and 4-for-4 from the line while adding seven boards. Michael Branche '14 and Tsatsis added 14 points apiece.
 

Looking Ahead: The Soaring Eagles will host Nazareth College at 6:00 p.m. on Friday in Speidel Gymnasium, before traveling to Houghton on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. tip.
