Live Coverage Stats
Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College men's basketball team kicks-off the 2013-14 season on the road as they compete in the always competitive NYU Tip-Off Tournament.  Elmira opens the tournament by taking on number 20th nationally ranked Morrisville State on Saturday, November 16th at 3:00 p.m.

Season Opening Games
EC has had mixed success in season opening games recently, registering a 4-9 record in those games in the last 13 years. The last time an Elmira College team opened the season with a win was in 2009-10 when the men defeated Fredonia State, 83-77.

National Leaders
Derrick Vogel '14 was one of the major reasons the EC men's basketball team had its most successful season in six years as the point guard was 12th in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio. Vogel set a career high in assists last season, tallying 113, while starting all 25 games.

Captains Named
Elmira College Head Coach Randie Torgalski has relied on his Class of 2014 members to produce on and off the court for their entire careers so it is only fitting that he has named each of his five seniors captain for the 2013-14 season. Kurt Dutcher '14, Josh Keys '14, Zak Kumor '14, Matt Newell '14, and Derrick Vogel '14 will take over the captain duties for the season as they enter their final season in the Purple and Gold.

Returning Firepower
The Soaring Eagles welcome back 12 players from last year's team including four of the top six scorers. Derrick Vogel '14, Neil Randolph '15, Josh Keys '14, and Kurt Dutcher '14 averaged a combined 30.8 points per game, just over 50 percent of EC's overall scoring last season, and will be counted on to put up consistent scoring numbers this season.

The Number is 35.6
Derrick Vogel '14 not only started every game last season, but he played an astonishing 35.6 minutes per game. The 35.6 minutes per game was the highest minutes per game total an EC men's basketball player has registered in over 12 years. Reed VanDerlyke '04 is the next closest to Vogel's total, playing 34.5 minutes per game in the 2003-04 season.

Chasing History
Josh Keys '14 has already solidified himself as one of the best three-point shooters in Elmira College history, but he has a chance this season to plant his name at the top of the Elmira College men's basketball record books. Keys has 186 made three point baskets through his first three years on campus, placing him third all-time, and trails all-time leader Ryan Bennett '01, by 63 made three pointers.

Empire 8 Leaders
Derrick Vogel '14, David Borelli'15, and Josh Keys'14 all found their names near the top of the Empire 8 statistical leaderboards at the end of last season. Vogel was third in the conference in assists per game and fifth in the Empire 8 in steals per game, while Borelli placed eighth in blocks per game. Keys continued to show his ability to stretch defenses by knocking down over 40 percent of his three point attempts, placing him fifth in the conference in three point shooting percentage.
