Men’s Ice Hockey Falls on the Road to #10 Oswego State

Oswego, NY -- The Elmira College men's ice hockey team (2-4) scored two third period goals but it was not enough as the Soaring Eagles fell on the road to number 10 nationally ranked Oswego State (3-1), 7-3.  Elmira continued to see success on power play opportunities tonight as the Purple and Gold scored on 2-of-5 man-up opportunities

Oswego took an early lead, scoring the game's opening goal at the 8:39 mark.  Elmira answered less than two minutes later with a goal by Jarryd ten Vaanholt '16, tying the game at 1-1.  Last year's point leader, Michael Collins '16 picked up an assist on the EC goal.

Then, Oswego broke the game wide open by scoring three goals in the final 5:06 of the first period to take a 4-1 lead into the first intermission.  The Lakers would then expand their lead to 5-1 as they picked up a goal with less than two minutes remaining in the second period and would up it to 6-1 early in the third period.

However, Elmira would stage a comeback as they scored a pair of goals within 41 seconds of each other.  Josh Burnell '15 made it 6-2 at the 7:10 mark as he scored his fourth power play goal of the season.  Eric David '15 and Alexander Taulien '17 were credited with assists on the goal.  Then, at the 7:51 mark, Brian Depp '16 made it 6-3 as he scored on a man-up opportunity.  Jesper Strale '14 and Collins picked up assists on Elmira's third goal of the game.

The Lakers picked up one final goal in the third period to seal a 7-3 victory.  Elmira goaltender Sal Magliocco '17 made 34 saves in tonight's contest, upping his season total to 203.

Elmira will be back in action on Tuesday, November 19th when the Soaring Eagles host Fredonia State in a non-conference game.  The puck will drop at 7:00 p.m. at the Murray Athletic Center in Pine Valley, NY.
