Puglisi Throws No Hitter as Softball Splits with Alfred

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Elmira, NY – Alex Puglisi '14 threw a no-hitter in game two as the EC Softball team split a pair of 1-0 games with conference opponent Alfred University Monday afternoon at Eldridge Park Stadium. The Soaring Eagles move to 13-7 overall and 5-3 in the Empire 8, while the Saxons move to 15-11 overall and 7-3 in conference action.

Puglisi pitched two more incredible games for EC and continued to prove her dominance on the mound. In game one she matched up against Jessica O'Sullivan who proved to also be having a remarkable season. Puglisi allowed three hits and three walks, but none were more crucial than in the top of the fourth inning when the Saxons scored the solo run of the game. After Jasmine Picini reached base on a single, Nicole Maher hit a huge single to right center field scoring Picini. O'Sullivan pitched one heck of a game allowing six hits and one walk, while striking out six batters improving to 8-1 this season.

In game two Puglisi matched up against Alison Wickwire who was on the mound for the Saxons. However, Puglisi proved to be the tougher pitcher not allowing any hits and giving up two walks, while striking out seven batters. Wickwire only allowed one hit, but in the bottom of third inning she seemed to get rattled. Jacquelyn Heggie '16 started it off by earning a walk, then later advanced two bases on two wild pitches. Krystal Bupp '14 later would hit a slow grounder towards to right side forcing Alfred to make a throwing error and allowing Heggie to score the game's only run.

The Soaring Eagles will look to build momentum tomorrow when they travel to New York, NY to take on Hunter College in a non-conference doubleheader. Game one starts at 3:00 p.m. and game two starts at 5:00 p.m.
