Scranton, PA – The EC Women's Tennis team was down early 2-1, but rallied back taking four out six singles to beat Marywood University 5-4 Friday afternoon to close out the spring season. The win helps the Soaring Eagles finish 6-8 in the season, while the Pacers fall to 11-4 overall.
Ayaka Yoshino '16 and
Ellen Plowman '16 earned the win at the second doubles spot dominating the match to an 8-1 victory. The Pacers were able to control first and third doubles spots to take the early 2-1 team lead.
In singles action the Soaring Eagles were able to take control of the match and turn things around.
Kayla Fitzgerald '15, Stephanie Tock '16 and
Plowman each won in straight sets dropping a combined total of nine games. The Pacers were able to dominate at the first and sixth singles spots to make it 4-4. It now came down to
Yoshino at the second singles spot to get EC the win. After a dominating performance in the first set by
Yoshino (6-1), Marywood's Melissa Hudock battled back to force a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-3), and eventually force a third set. In the third and final set
Yoshino stepped up her play forcing Hudock to make several errors pulling out the victory 6-0.
