Softball Splits with a Tough Fisher Squad

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Pittsford, NY – The Elmira College Softball team split games with a tough St. John Fisher College squad, 6-3 and 1-0, Sunday afternoon at the Fisher Softball Complex. The Soaring Eagles move to 12-6 overall and 4-2 in the Empire 8, while Cardinals move to 12-8 overall and 3-1 in conference action.

Alex Puglisi '14 pitched two more great games for the Soaring Eagles pitching 13 straight innings, allowing four total runs and 12 hits, while striking out 16 total batters. After getting on board in the top of the first to take the early lead of game one, the EC offense came to life scoring five straight runs to take a 6-0 lead. The Cardinals were able to finally come through with some hits and runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but it would not enough as Puglisi held off the late surge to secure her eighth victory. Alex Andrade '13 and Ashley Palmer '16 were very impressive for the Soaring Eagles. Andrade went 3-for-3 from the plate scoring three runs in the game, while Palmer went 3-for-4 from the plate recording one run and two RBIs.

In game two it was a pitcher's duel with neither team getting very many opportunities to get on the board. However Jessie Smyrski, Cardinal Right Fielder, was able to come through in the bottom of the sixth inning with the game winning homer to right center field.

The Soaring Eagles will look to continue its success in the conference when it hosts Alfred University on Friday, April 12th and Houghton College on Saturday, April 13th. Friday's games are set to start at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., while Saturday's games are set to start at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
