Utica, NY – After falling down early, the EC Softball team could not gather any momentum to comeback as they dropped a 6-1 decision to Utica College on Saturday morning at Greenman Field. The Pioneers improve to 32-11 and move onto the Empire 8 Softball Championship Game at 1 p.m. against St. John Fisher College. The Soaring Eagles fall to 24-12 and are now eliminated from the tournament.
In the beginning the Pioneers came out ready to hit getting on the board in the bottom of the second with Christy Traglia hitting a two RBI single to center field. EC finally got on the board in the top of the fourth with an unearned run, but it would be the only chance for the Soaring Eagles to score. The Pioneers came through for three more scores in the bottom of the fourth and a score again in the bottom of the sixth to secure the 6-1 victory.
Abby Monroe pitched a complete game for the Pioneers allowing seven hits, zero earned runs and two walks, while striking out three batters.
Alex Puglisi '14 pitched six innings for the Soaring Eagles allowing nine hits and five earned runs, while striking out two batters.
Ashley Palmer '16 had another great day from the box going 2-for-3.
The EC Softball team will now wait to see about a possible ECAC postseason berth.
