Pine Valley, NY -- The Elmira College women's tennis team (1-1, 1-1 E8) tallied their first Empire 8 Conference win of the season as they defeated St. John Fisher College (0-2, 0-1 E8), 6-3.  EC's Stephanie Tock '16 clinched the match for the Soaring Eagles, winning at fifth singles, 6-4, 6-4.

Elmira started today's match strong, winning two of three doubles matches.  EC's Ayaka Yoshino '16 and Danielle Levine '17 teamed up for an 8-3 win at second doubles while the tandem of Ellen Plowman '16 and Kristi Chanda '17 pulled out a tight 8-6 match at third doubles.  Fisher quickly evened the match with a win at third singles but victories by Elmira's Yoshino and Kayla Fitzgerald '15 at second and fourth singles gave EC a 4-2 edge. 

The Cardinals claimed another singles match at the first position to cut the deficit to 4-3.  However, Elmira's Tock would put together a clutch performance at fifth singles as she rallied from behind in both sets to seal the win for the Soaring Eagles. Following Tock's victory, Plowman would add an exclamation point to today's final with a convincing 6-2, 6-2 win at sixth singles. 

Elmira will look to build on today's Empire 8 victory as the Soaring Eagles host conference opponent Utica College on Saturday, September 14th in a 1:00 p.m. match at the Murray Athletic Center.
