Perfect Off the Bench
Jake Metcalf '15 had one of the best games of his career, setting career highs in points and rebounds against Alfred University on Saturday. Metcalf scored 15 points and nearly completed his first career double-double by grabbing nine boards in 20 minutes of action. The junior also did not miss a shot the entire game, going seven-for-seven from the floor.
Kumor Providing a Spark
Prior to this weekend,
Zak Kumor '14 had only seen action in two games this season, but he provided a much-needed scoring punch in Friday's win over Utica College. With EC leading 9-2 early in the first half, Kumor came into the game and scored Elmira's next five points to give the Soaring Eagles a 14-5 advantage.
Filling Up the Stat Sheet
Derrick Vogel '14 put in a well-rounded performance in Friday night's win over Utica College. The senior guard scored eight points, pulled down nine rebounds, and dished out five assists. He also produced a season-high three steals.
The Dutch-man
Kurt Dutcher '14 has elevated his play since the calendar flipped to 2014. In the four games since the start of the New Year, Dutcher has averaged 5.3 points per game, raising his season average by over one point per game.
Still at the Top
After regaining his scoring touch with back-to-back 19 point games,
Neil Randolph '15 remains at the top of the Empire 8 Conference in points per game. Randolph is averaging 19.2 points per game, holding a slight advantage over Hartwick College's Jared Suderley.
Cleaning Up the Glass
Rebounding the basketball has been a team effort for EC this season as there are four men averaging 4.5 rebounds per game or more. Elmira as a team is averaging 35.3 rebounds per game, almost four more than their opponents. The Soaring Eagles grabbed 47 boards against Alfred, a season high for the team and the most rebounds an EC team has taken down since November 19, 2011 when they secured 50 rebounds against Marygrove College.
