Elmira, NY -- The EC men's basketball team will head out on the road this weekend looking to snap their three-game losing streak against a pair of conference opponents. The Soaring Eagles will play at Utica College on Friday and then at Alfred University on Saturday.
Hitting from the Charity Stripe
Neil Randolph '15 is one of the best in the Empire 8 Conference at getting to the free throw line and knocking down the freebies. The junior is third in the conference in free throw attempts per game (6.67) and is second in the Empire 8 in free throw shooting percentage (.900). Randolph also finds his name amongst the national leaders in free throw percentage, ranking 28th entering this weekend of play.
Three-Point Marksman
Josh Keys '14 has been hitting shots from behind the arc his entire career at EC and this season is no different. The senior leads the Empire 8 Conference in three-pointers made per game (2.8) and ranks sixth in the conference in three point percentage (.385).
Keep the Ball in His Hands
Derrick Vogel '14 has proven again that he is one of the best point guards in the Empire 8 Conference. The senior guard ranks fifth in the Empire 8 in assists per game (3.8), but more impressively, Vogel is second in the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.9), a category he was tops of last season.
Bench Production
For most of the season, the starting five had shouldered the load, but EC's bench has stepped up as of late, out producing the opposing bench in three straight contests. This is the longest stretch of the season and the longest since the bench put together a six-game streak of outscoring the opposing bench in the middle of last season.
John Mullane '16 chipped in 11 points in 24 minutes of action against Nazareth Friday night and
Kurt Dutcher '14 contributed a team-high 10 points off the bench in Saturday's loss to St. John Fisher.
Keys Closing in
With 211 career three-pointers,
Josh Keys '14 is moving ever closer to becoming Elmira's all-time leader in career three-pointers. EC's all-time leader, Ryan Bennett '01, holds down the No. 1 spot with 249.
