Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College men's basketball team enters the second-to-last weekend of the regular season looking to get back to .500 in conference play with a pair of Empire 8 games against Ithaca College and Nazareth College. The Soaring Eagles will travel to nearby Ithaca on Friday, February 14th for a 6:00 p.m. game before returning home for their home finale on Saturday, February 15th against Nazareth for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
Alone at the Top
Josh Keys '14 solidified his position as the most prolific shooter in Elmira College history last Friday against Hartwick College, knocking down his 250th career three-pointer with 8:02 remaining in the game. Keys broke a 13-year old record, previously held by Ryan Bennett '01.
Not Since 2010-11
Oladapo Badmos '17 tallied a season-high 15 points in the loss to Stevens Tech on Saturday. The 15 points are the most points scored by a freshman since his teammate
Josh Keys '14 scored 16 points against Utica College on February 15, 2011.
Glad to Have You Back
Chris Cassidy '14 has been a welcomed presence in the EC starting lineup over the last five games as the Soaring Eagles have gone 4-1. Their only blemish during that time came in their last game against the Ducks, a game in which Cassidy did not finish. Cassidy is averaging 22.4 points per game, 5.2 rebounds per game, and 2.2 assists per game over the last five games.
Moving Up the Ranks
It is no coincidence that
Derrick Vogel '14 has increased his assist numbers over the last 10 games, considering that is when
Chris Cassidy '14 and
Oladapo Badmos '17 made their first appearances of the season. Over his last 10 games, Vogel is averaging 6.0 assists per game while posting an impressive 3.75 assist-to-turnover ratio. The senior point guard has increased his season assists per game to 4.8, which ranks second in the Empire 8 Conference, and has improved his assist-to-turnover ratio to 2.4, which leads the Empire 8.
One Win Away
A win over Nazareth College on Saturday would give the Soaring Eagles their first winning record at Speidel Gymnasium since the 2002-03 season. EC went 6-3 at home that season and are 6-5 this year entering the home finale against the Golden Flyers.
