Men's Tennis Falls in Empire 8 Opener to Stevens Tech

Box Score

Pine Valley, NY --
The Elmira College men's tennis team (3-4, 0-1 E8) fell in their Empire 8 opener to Stevens Tech (5-7, 2-0 E8), 6-0. The loss drops the Soaring Eagles to 3-4 on the season and 0-1 in Empire 8 play.

Stevens took a 3-0 lead after doubles, but the wins did not come easy as the Purple and Gold showed they were capable of going toe-to-toe with the four-time defending Empire 8 Champions. Keith Bujak'15 and Sam Pine'14 had a strong showing against Stevens' number one doubles team, losing a late break to fall 8-6. EC's third doubles team of Pavle Vashakidze'16 and Scott Ferron'16, who was making his first appearance of the spring, had an identical result as the duo also suffered a break at the end in an 8-6 loss.

The Soaring Eagles attempted to get back into the match during singles play, but the Ducks proved to be too strong as Stevens took first, second, and third singles in straight sets to make it a 6-0 match. The match would end shortly after second singles finished, leaving fourth, fifth, and sixth singles unfinished.

The Purple and Gold will look to get back to .500 in Empire 8 play when they host Hartwick College on Tuesday, April 1st at 4:00 p.m.
