Elmira, NY -- The Elmria College women's tennis team is going for win number four in conference when EC hosts Hartwick College for an Empire 8 matchup. The match against the Hawks is scheduled for Sunday, September 21st at 1:00 p.m. in the Murray Athletic Center.
Into Second PlaceKayla Fitzgerald '15 continues to climb the ranks of EC's All-Time Wins list as her pair of wins against Houghton College Thursday, gave the senior her 46th and 47th career victories. With 47 career wins, Fitzgerald has moved ahead of Krista Heckler '03 into sole possession of second place in EC women's tennis history.
Two in the Top-5Joining Fitzgerald in the top-five all-time is her fellow captain and classmate,
Amy Schmidt '15. Schmidt has eight wins on the season following her two-win day against Houghton, which increased her career total to 40 combined wins. The 40 wins moved her into a tie with former teammate Bri Palmiero '12 for fifth all-time in career wins and puts her just one shy of Sasha Robinson-Neff '06, who holds fourth place.
Series History Hartwick and EC have met 16 times over the last 14 years, including twice in the Empire 8 Conference Tournament, in 2004 and 2006. The Hawks own a 9-7 record over the Soaring Eagles since 2000, including winning five out of the last seven matchups. However, the two teams have alternated wins since 2010, the most recent result going in EC's favor, 8-1, in 2013 at the Murray Athletic Center.
Last Time OutThe Hawks of Hartwick College come into this weekend of play with a 3-2 overall record and a 2-2 mark in Empire 8 Conference play following their 6-3 win over St. John Fisher College on September 14th.
