Men's Basketball Game Notes - Jan. 23-24

CORTLAND STATSLIVE COVERAGE

Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College men's basketball team is preparing for a two-game weekend set which features a road Empire 8 contest and a home non-conference tilt. The Soaring Eagles travel to Utica College to complete the season series with the Pioneers on Friday, January 23rd, with a start time of 8:00 p.m., then come home to host SUNY Cortland the following day at 6:00 p.m.

Last Time Out
A late comeback fell just short for EC in their most recent game as the Soaring Eagles fell at Nazareth College, 77-69. Neil Randolph '15 and Oladapo Badmos '17 paced the Purple and Gold with 23 and 19 points, respectively, but Elmira could not slow down the Golden Flyers as Nazareth shot 57.1 percent from the floor and 60.0 percent from three-point range. 

1,000 Point Tracker
With double-digit points in each of his last six games, Neil Randolph '15 has 1,000 points for his career within sight. Randolph has followed-up his breakout 2013-14 campaign by totaling 179 points in 13 games played, increasing his career total to 961 points. At his current rate of 13.8 points per game, Randolph is on track to join the 1,000-point club at St. John Fisher College on February 6th. 

A Look at Utica
The Pioneers come into Friday's contest winners of three of their last four games, improving to 3-5 in Empire 8 play and 7-10 overall. Utica defeated Hartwick 90-83 in their most recent game behind 21 points from Aaron Nevins and 19 points off the bench from Robert Tutein. Conor Maisch leads the Pioneers with 17.9 points per game and ranks sixth in the nation in three-point shooting percentage at 51.5 percent.  

Scouting SUNY Cortland
The Red Dragons enter Saturday's contest on a three-game win streak that has pushed their overall record to 11-3. Cortland has two players averaging double-figures in Lamard Herron and Blair Estarfaa, who have posted per game averages of 16.3 and 12.6 points, respectively. Estarfaa is a proven commodity from beyond the arc, shooting 47.6 percent from three-point range.
