Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College men's basketball team heads back out on the road in search of Empire 8 Conference win number two as EC takes on Alfred University tonight at 8:00 p.m.
Empire 8-Opening WinEC defeated Ithaca College, 75-60, in their Empire 8 Conference opener Friday night, snapping a nine-game losing streak in Empire 8-opening games. Elmira led by as many as 22 points in the second half before finishing off the Bombers.
Hayden Harkins '18 led the Soaring Eagles with 17 points while
Neil Randolph '15 scored 14 points in 14 minutes off the bench.
Season-High in ThreesElmira hit 13 three-pointers in their win over Ithaca, knocking down 13-of-31 from behind the arc. The 13 three-pointers are the most made in a single game all season, and the most EC has hit in a game since last year's season-opener against Morrisville State when the Purple and Gold made 16 three-point baskets.
All-Time vs. AlfredAs nearby competitors and conference opponents for the last 15 years, EC and Alfred have a long history, playing 59 times in all. Elmira holds the all-time advantage with a 31-28 record, alternating wins and losses for each of the last two seasons.
Scouting AlfredThe Saxons enter Tuesday's game with a 7-3 overall record and a 1-1 mark in the Empire 8 Conference. Alfred defeated Stevens Tech, 65-58, on Friday before falling, 75-74, to Hartwick College. The Saxons are led by Dalton Walsh and Tyler Seelman, who are averaging 17.3 and 16.3 points per game, respectively. Walsh is also tops on the team with 9.2 rebounds per game and also averages 1.8 blocks per game.
Something Has To GiveEC is the best three-point shooting team in the Empire 8 Conference, hitting 9.4 three-pointers per game and at a 39.9 success rate. In contrast, Alfred University, EC's opponent on Tuesday, has the best three-point defense, by percentage, in the conference. The Saxons have allowed an average of 4.7 three-pointers per game and opposing teams are shooting just 23.7 percent from distance against them.
