Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College men's basketball team will look to pick up their third straight win, and move back to .500 in Empire 8 play, when they travel to take on Houghton College tonight at 8:00 p.m.
Back-to-Back WinsThe Soaring Eagles posted a weekend sweep of two Empire 8 opponents last weekend, defeating Stevens Tech and Hartwick College. EC used a 45-point second half, which featured 9-of-13 shooting from behind the arc, to take down the Ducks on Friday, 67-64, then continued their hot shooting the next day, hitting 16 total three-pointers to claim an 80-65, wire-to-wire victory over the Hawks.
Still in the HuntEC's weekend sweep of Stevens Tech and Hartwick has re-opened the door for an Empire 8 postseason berth. Elmira enters tonight's contest with a 6-7 record in conference games with three games yet to play. EC still needs some help from the teams above them, but victories in all three contests would give the Purple and Gold a realistic chance at their first postseason berth since the 1996-97 season.
A New Single-Season RecordThe 16 made three-pointers against Hartwick on Saturday increased Elmira's season total to 200 made threes. That total sets a new Elmira College single-season record, eclipsing the 197 total three-pointers made by the 1998-99 edition of EC men's basketball.
All-Time vs. HoughtonEC picked-up their sixth straight victory over Houghton College earlier this season. The teams have now played 38 times with the Soaring Eagles holding a 33-5 record against the Highlanders.
Scouting HoughtonHoughton dropped their 12th and 13th consecutive games last weekend, falling to St. John Fisher College and Utica College, 97-65 and 87-80, respectively. Johnathan Stowe continues to lead the Highlanders in scoring and rebounding at 13.7 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. He is also only one of two players in the Empire 8 averaging a double-double.
