Pine Valley, NY -- The Elmira College women's tennis team picked up their first win of the spring season, sweeping visiting Lycoming College, 9-0. In total, Elmira had four matches in which they did not give up a single game and three others that saw the Warriors earn just one game.
 
EC got off to a fast start thanks to a flawless performance in doubles. All three doubles teams made quick work of their respective opponents, winning 8-0 at the first, second, and third doubles positions.
 
The Soaring Eagles carried that start into singles play, replicating the results down the list. Ayaka Yoshino '16 posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles, followed by a 6-3, 6-2 victory at second singles from Kayla Fitzgerald '15. The other Fitzgerald, Kayla's sister Megan Fitzgerald '18, had a relatively easy 6-0, 6-1 win at third singles, while her classmate, Rebecca Zeuschner '18 followed suit with a 6-1, 6-0 match at fourth singles.
 
With the match determined, the final two singles matches were played as eight-game pro sets. Stephanie Tock '16 took down her opponent, 8-4, at fifth singles, and Ellen Plowman '16 completed Elmira's sweep with an 8-1 win at sixth singles.
 
EC concludes their 2014-15 season on Friday, March 27th when they travel to take on Oswego State. The match is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
