Oswego, NY -- The Elmira College women's tennis team (9-4) concluded the spring portion of their 2014-15 schedule with a 6-3 win on the road against Oswego State (5-10).  Elmira's nine wins are the most in over 14 years of the EC women's tennis program and their .692 win percentage is also the best in that time frame as well.
 
Elmira opened the day by winning just one of three doubles matches, with the lone victory coming from second doubles tandem Ayaka Yoshino '16 and Ellen Plowman '16 in the form of an 8-1 win.  Oswego claimed doubles points at first and third doubles by scores of 9-7 and 8-6, respectively. 
 
In singles play, Elmira was going to need some big performances from several players to secure a win, but things did not begin as well as they would have hoped.  The Soaring Eagles were forced to end a match early at fourth singles due to injury, with the retirement giving the Lakers a 3-1 lead. 
 
However, Elmira proved to be superior singles players the rest of the way out, winning 61-of-71 games played, as the Soaring Eagles claimed the five remaining matches en route to a 6-3 victory. 
 
Yoshino recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win at first singles, extending her dual match win streak to eight matches.  Kayla Fitzgerald '15 won by an identical score at second singles in the last match of her collegiate career. 
 
Meanwhile, at third singles, Megan Fitzgerald '18 battled through injury for a 7-5, 6-1 victory.  Elmira's final two points of the match came at fifth and sixth singles, as Stephanie Tock '16 worked her way to 6-0, 6-0 win at fifth while Plowman tallied a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the sixth spot.
