Rochester, NY -- A five-man Elmira College men's tennis team could not overcome the 2-0 hole brought on by forfeiting third doubles and sixth singles as they suffered a 7-2 setback to St. John Fisher College. Both of EC's wins came in singles as Austin Mansell'16 and Pat Tracey'18, who was making his spring debut, earned victories at third and fifth singles.
 
The Soaring Eagles were playing their first match in two weeks and that lack of competition seemed to contribute to their slow start as both doubles teams fell into early deficits. EC's first doubles team lost 8-1, while its second doubles team of Mansell and Chris Konow'18 rallied to keep the match within reach. Unfortunately, the duo's comeback would not be completed as they fell 8-5.
 
Then in singles play, Tracey got things started with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at fifth singles, making it a 4-1 match. The Cardinals would clinch the win with victories at first and second singles, forcing Mansell, who split his first two sets, to play a 10-point super-tiebreaker for his third set. Mansell would pull out the tiebreaker 10-8 for his victory at third singles. St. John Fisher brought it to a 7-2 final with a close victory at fourth singles as well.
 
EC returns home for a match against Ithaca College on Tuesday, April 21st at 4:00 p.m.
