Veterans Guide Women’s Tennis to 6-3 Win over Oswego

Score: Elmira College 6, Oswego State 3
Records: Elmira College (4-4), Oswego State (4-6)
Location: Murray Athletic Center Tennis Dome – Pine Valley, NY

Pine Valley, NY -- On a day that saw several home sporting events rescheduled due to torrential rain in the Southern Tier, the Elmira College women's tennis team was able to play and complete their match against the Lakers of Oswego State, as the Murray Athletic Center Tennis Dome provided a perfect venue for today's non-conference match.  Elmira pushed their season record back to .500, improving to 4-4, as the Soaring Eagles downed the Lakers 6-3.

Elmira opened the day by winning two of three doubles matches, a feat the Soaring Eagles have accomplished four times this season.  EC saw Ayaka Yoshino '16 and Ellen Plowman '16 tally a win at first doubles while Stephanie Tock '16 and Megan Fitzgerald '18 won at the second spot.

In singles action, Elmira controlled things through the first four spots, as the Soaring Eagles earned wins at first, second, third, fourth positions. All of Elmira's singles wins came in straight sets.

In Their Own Words…
Head Coach Tom Linhart on how his team played today…
"It just came down to us competing well and confidently. I'm really pleased on how well we executed today, especially going into a big conference match against Nazareth on Thursday."

Coach Linhart on how important winning 2-of-3 doubles was this afternoon…
"We are definitely a momentum team. So, just to have a lead after doubles gives our ladies so much more confidence. They like to be in the lead and once we are in the lead, we don't lose. It's just phenomenal to get that lead and know that we are a good team."

Turning Point
Like most tennis matches, whoever sets the tone early usually controls the outcome of the match. Elmira's play in doubles was ever so important, as the Lakers entered the match having claimed 5-of-6 doubles points in their last two matches, both of which resulted in Oswego wins.
