ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College men's basketball team will look to continue its winning ways this weekend, when the Soaring Eagles travel to Rochester, New York, to compete in the Lexington Rochester Airport Hotel Tournament, hosted by the University of Rochester. Elmira opens the tournament on Saturday, November 26th, with a 7:00 p.m. showdown against Vassar College. EC will resume action the following afternoon with either a 1:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. contest against either Rochester or Waynesburg University.
ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM HONORS
- Hayden Harkins was named to the Max Ziel Men's Basketball All-Tourna- ment Team last weekend.
- In the two games played on the cam- pus of Oswego State, Harkins scored a combined 27 points with eight re- bounds and four assists.
- All of his points were scored on 3-point shots.
- He scored a team-high 18 points in the 70-68 victory over SUNY Maritime College in the consolation round. He made a pair of treys in the final three minutes of regulation, each time giving EC a one-point lead, the latter 67-66 with one-and-a-half minutes to play.
- Through the first three games of his junior season, Harkins has twice scored a season-high 18 points, having first done so in the opener at Hilbert (11/15).
- He enters the Lexington Rochester Airport Hotel Tournament scoring a team-leading 15.0 points per game.
VASSAR (3-1) AT A GLANCE
- After going 12-14 in 2015-16, the Brewers started the season with a 3-0 record, but dropped their most recent game to SUNY Maritime, 92-84.
- Vassar is an exceptional shooting team, as it ranks second in the Liberty League with a 47.1 field goal percent- age and a 46.9 3-point percentage.
- In the season-opening win over New Paltz, sophomore Alex Seff scored 34 points, tied for the second-most in a single game in program history.
- Seff leads Vassar with 18.5 points per game, fifth-most in the Liberty League.
ROCHESTER (4-0) AT A GLANCE
- Tournament host U of R enters the weekend undefeated with a 4-0 record.
- The Yellowjackets narrowly missed a berth in the NCAA Tournament last season after falling to Emory in the University Athletic Association title game.
- Two-time All-UAA honoree Sam Borst-Smith leads Rochester with 17.8 points per game. He also paced the Yellowjacket offense with 17.2 points as a junior a year ago.
- The Yellowjackets are 2-0 against E8 teams this season, having defeated Ithaca in overtime in the season opener and Alfred in last weekend's Chuck Resler Tournament.
WAYNESBURG (1-1) AT A GLANCE
- Waynesburg University is located in Waynesburg, Pa., approximately one hour southwest of Pittsburgh.
- Following the graduation of leading scorers D.J. Ritchie (15.2 PPG) and B.J. Durham (14.6 PPG), junior Jon Knab is the team's leading returning scorer with 8.7 points per game a year ago.
- The Yellow Jackets (Rochester's moniker is "Yellowjackets") overcame a 16-point second-half deficit to beat Frostburg State last time out, 67-66.
- Knab paced Waynesburg with 15 points and nine rebounds in the win over Frostburg, including the game-winning points on a last-minute layup.
