Women’s Tennis Eyes E8 Win at St. John Fisher

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's tennis team is set to go on the road to face St. John Fisher College on Tuesday evening in Empire 8 Conference action in Pittsford, New York, at 4:00 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: The Soaring Eagles lost two tough matches at the EC Fall Invitational on Saturday, September 17th. The Purple and Gold lost the first match to Bard College, 5-4, in a hard-fought effort. Then Elmira dropped the second match to RIT, 7-2. Megan Fitzgerald '18 was a bright spot for the Soaring Eagles, going 4-0 on the day, winning in both singles and doubles action.

FITZGERALD CLIMBS RECORD BOOK: While adding four more wins to her already impressive total, Megan Fitzgerald has climbed to a two-way tie for sixth place in Elmira's record book for career wins (46). Fitzgerald has only lost two matches this entire season, both coming in EC's match against Ithaca College. Fitzgerald also ranks sixth all-time in career singles victories (23).

SCOUTING ST. JOHN FISHER: The Cardinals come into the contest 3-2 overall and 2-2 in the Empire 8. Similarly to the Soaring Eagles, the Cardinals are looking to turn around their recent struggles after losing their last two contests, the most recent setback being an 8-1 loss at home against Nazareth College. Fisher's strength this season has been at the five and six singles spots in their lineup. Caroline Seaberg is 4-0 while playing as the number six and Amanda Pendergast is 3-1 at the fifth spot.

ALL-TIME SERIES: Today's match marks the 26th all-time meeting between the two programs. The Soaring Eagles trail in the all-time series, 13-11, however EC owns the most recent win in the series, a 6-3 victory at home during the 2015 season. Fitzgerald is the only returning starter to get a win in that match last season. The Purple and Gold have dominated the series in recent years, winning the last four matches.

UP NEXT: After today's match with St. John Fisher, the Purple and Gold will travel to Oneonta, New York, to face the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons on Saturday, September 24th, at 12:00 p.m. at the Dr. Heissan Tennis Courts.
