Empire 8 Release
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Elmira College student-athlete
Charl Pretorius '19 was recognized as the Empire 8 Conference Men's Golf Player of the Week following his career-best round, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Originally from Pretoria, South Africa, Pretorius earned the first weekly accolade of his career for his single-round career-low at the Oswego State Fall Invitational on Monday, September 19th. He carded an eight-over par 79 at the Oswego Country Club, two strokes better than his previous low round. That score was good enough for the second-year Soaring Eagle to finish the tournament in a tie for fifth place.
Pretorius' round of 79 is the lowest recorded by any of the five Soaring Eagles this fall. Through the team's first seven rounds of the fall portion of the schedule, the 6-foot sophomore is just fractions of a point behind team leader
Dan Gridley '18 with an average score of 85.43 and a versus par of 14.00.
The Soaring Eagle men's golf team will host its annual Elmira College Fall Invitational at the Elmira Country Club on Tuesday, September 27th. The field of eight teams will tee-off with a 10:00 a.m. shotgun start.
