Men's Basketball to Host Route 13 Rival Ithaca on Saturday

Complete Game Notes

ELMIRA, N.Y. --
The Elmira College men's basketball team will look to rebound from its tough performance last time out against Alfred University, when the Soaring Eagles welcome the Bombers of Ithaca College to Speidel Gymnasium on Saturday, January 21st. The Empire 8 Conference and Route 13 rivals tip-off at 4:00 p.m.

ADELSON FLASHES 3-POINT STROKE
  • Elmira freshman Jesse Adelson '20 made just his second career start on Thursday against Alfred.
  • Adelson was Elmira's leading scorer against the Saxons with 11 points, nine of which came from beyond the 3-point arc.
  • It was the second double-digit point performance of the season for the rookie guard, with his other coming in his first career start vs. Messiah on December 20th, when he netted a season-high 20 points.
  • In his two starts, Adelson shot 50.0 percent from 3-point range (9-for-18), giving EC another  threat from distance in addition to junior sharpshooter Hayden Harkins '18 and fellow freshman guard Alex Ischiropoulos '20.

NEW YEAR, NEW PORRETT
  • Justin Porrett '19 has started all but one of Elmira's 14 games this season; he played 18 minutes off of the bench and was held scoreless against Messiah in the last game of the 2016 (12/20).
  • Since then, however, Porrett has arguably been EC's been player on the court, as he has paced the Soaring Eagles with 15.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.6 steals per game in the team's five conference bouts.
  • In EC's two home games in 2017, Porrett's scoring average is even higher at 16.5 points per game.
  • While his four-game double-digit point streak came to an end when he netted only seven vs. Alfred, he tied his previous season high with seven rebounds.
  • In addition, he recorded two steals, his third consecutive outing with multiple steals. In the last three games combined, Porrett is averaging 2.3 steals per game.
  • His two steals helped the Soaring Eagles register a season-high seven against the Saxons.

ITHACA AT A GLANCE
  • The Bombers make the short trip to Elmira with a 6-9 overall record and a 2-4 mark inside Empire 8 play.
  • In its most recent game on Thursday, Ithaca defeated Houghton College on the road by a final score of 70-56, snapping a three-game skid.
  • IC boasts the conference's second-highest scoring offense, which averages 84.6 points per game.
  • The Bombers have topped 90 points on six occasions; however, they also tend to give up points in bunches, as 10 different opponents have surpassed the 90-point plateau, including E8 foes Alfred (118), Hartwick (103), and Stevens (104).
  • Leading Ithaca's high-octane offense is 6-foot-5-inch junior guard Marc Chasin, who ranks second in the conference with an average of 20.3 points per game.
  • One of Chasin's strengths is his ability to shoot the 3-ball, as he ranks fifth in the E8 among qualifiers with a 35.1 3-point field goal percentage and 2.7 treys per game.
  • As a do-it-all player, Chasin is also among the top-10 in free throw percentage (78.1), rebounds (6.1), and assists (3.1).
  • Peter Ezema is second on the team with 10.7 points per game, while he paces the Bombers with 7.2 rebounds per game, the latter ranking sixth in the Empire 8.
