Men’s Basketball Heads to Hoboken for Saturday Clash with Stevens

Complete Game Notes

ELMIRA, N.Y. --
The Elmira College men's basketball team will be in search of its first Empire 8 Conference win of the season this Saturday, January 7th, when the Soaring Eagles visit the Garden State to face the Ducks of Stevens Institute of Technology. Saturday's tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Stevens' Canavan Arena in Hoboken, New Jersey.

COMPLETE PERFORMANCE
  • Second-year guard Justin Porrett '19 had one of his best games of the season in Elmira's E8 opener against Hartwick.
  • Porrett finished with 15 points, eight assists and seven boards.
  • His 15 points were the second-highest single-game total of his sophomore campaign, while it also marked the fifth time this season Porrett has logged double digits.
  • Porrett's seven rebounds tied his season high. It is also the second-highest single-game rebound total of his collegiate career.
  • His eight dimes also tied his second-highest single-game output of the 2016-17 season.

HARKINS 7TH IN RECORD BOOK
  • After stroking five 3-pointers against Hartwick last Tuesday night, Hayden Harkins '18 increased his three-year career 3-point total to 149.
  • Harkins' 149 makes from 3-point range moved the Tampa, Florida, native into sole possession of seventh place in EC history for career makes.
  • Harkins surpassed former volume-scorer Bobby DiPiazza '11, who ended his Soaring Eagle career with 148 3-point buckets, for the seventh spot
  • Only seven 3-pointers separate Harkins from the fifth spot in EC record books. Shawn Blakeslee '00 & Reggie Rollins '88 own a share of the No. 5 spot with 156 made 3-pointers.
  • If, and more than likely when, Harkins makes his seventh 3-pointer this season, he will become the third player under Head Coach Randie Torgalski to crack Elmira's Top-5 list.
  • The most recent Soaring Eagle under Coach Torgalski to crack the Top-5 was two-time Empire 8 All-Conference honoree, Neil Randolph '15, who finished his four-year career in third place with 196 makes.

STEVENS AT A GLANCE
  • The Ducks enter Saturday's contest with an impressive 7-2 overall record and a 1-0 mark inside Empire 8 Conference play.
  • Stevens has won two straight and is 4-1 in their last five games. The team's most recent win came in the form of a 91-73 victory on the road against Utica College.
  • Stevens' offense is averaging 81.2 points per game, a mark that ranks third in the Empire 8. Only 0.4 points per game separate Stevens from second-place Hartwick.
  • No one in the Empire 8 is shooting the 3-ball better than the Ducks, who lead the conference in 3-point percentage at 40.1% (97-for-242).
  • The high-efficiency shooting from beyond the arc has yielded 10.8 3-point makes per game this season, a mark that leads the E8 and ranks 17th in the country.
  • Patrick Barron has been instrumental in Stevens' success from long-range, as the senior guard leads the conference in 3-points makes per game at 3.8. That marks also ranks eighth in Division III men's hoops.
  • Barron leads the Ducks with a 15.4 points per game average, while Evan Klimchak is close behind at 15.2 ppg.
  • Ryan Coffey is the team's leading rebounder with 6.9 rebounds per game. However, keep an eye on Thomas Cook, who leads the Ducks on the offensive glass (20 off. boards; 2.5 off. rpg).
