Elmira Softball Travels to Face Lycoming in 2017 Season Finale

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College softball team wraps up the 2017 season this afternoon with a non-conference doubleheader against Lycoming College. The opening pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

LAST TIME OUT: Elmira closed out Empire 8 Conference play in style with a pair of home victories over Houghton College. The Soaring Eagles ran away with game one, outscoring the visitors 11-2 in five innings, before rallying in the nightcap with four unanswered runs to claim a 6-5 win and sweep the season series against the Highlanders. Emily Carlin '17 fueled the EC offense in game one with a two-RBI single in the second that gave Elmira a 5-0 lead, before launching a three-run homer two innings later to put the Purple and Gold out in front, 8-2. Carlin also picked up the win, as she tossed 5.0 innings of two-run ball. The second game of Wednesday's doubleheader was a much closer affair, as Houghton took a 5-2 lead on Elmira in the top of the fifth inning. However, EC slowly chipped away at the lead with runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Hannah Lundgren '18 delivered the knock-out blow, as her walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning allowed Sarah Garner '20 to slide under a tag on a play at the plate.

PROGRAM RECORD: Carlin's three-run jack in the fourth inning of EC's 11-2 win over Houghton was a significant one to say the least. The Riverside, California, native sits at 13 career homers during her time with the Soaring Eagles, which is tied for first in EC program history with former standout, Erin Pruess '12. Carlin has two home runs on the season, both of which have come in the team's last five games, and is only the third player in the program's history with double-digit home runs.

SCOUTING LYCOMING: The Warriors are having a solid season with an 18-14 overall record and a 5-9 mark in the Middle Atlantic Commonwealth Conference (MACC). Lycoming has dropped five consecutive games, two of which have come in extra innings, while the last four have been decided by a single run. Lycoming's last win dates back to April 18, when the Warriors edged Alfred University by a 3-1 final score. Kayla Kline has been Lycoming's most consistent bat with a team-leading .414 batting average and paces the Warriors with 29 runs scored. Morgan Kunes has provided the power with a team-high .613 slugging percentage, which includes 15 extra-base hits on eight doubles, three triples and four home runs. Kunes has also driven in a team-high 30 runs on the season. Rachael Shady has logged the most innings in the pitcher's circle (110.1) and boasts a 2.35 ERA, as well as a team-high 64 strikeouts.

ALL-TIME SERIES: Elmira and Lycoming have met 12 times during their respective histories. The series is split evenly at 6-6, although the Warriors enter today's doubleheader with the most recent wins, both of which came last season at Eldridge Park Stadium.
