Men’s Tennis Travels to Face St. John Fisher in 2017 Finale

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College men's tennis team plays in its final match of the 2017 season tomorrow afternoon, as the Purple and Gold travel to face the Cardinals of St. John Fisher College. The Empire 8 Conference match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. in Rochester, New York.

LAST TIME OUT: Elmira suffered a 7-2 setback to Houghton College on its home courts at the Murray Athletic Center last time out, a loss that eliminated the Soaring Eagles from postseason contention. The Highlanders claimed all three of the doubles matches and four of the six singles contest to clinch the win. Upperclassmen Patrick Tracey '18 and Chris Konow '18 were Elmira's only two winners on the day, as the two Soaring Eagles earned singles victories at the third and fifth positions, respectively.

RECORD BOOK WATCH: With an 11-5 singles record and a 9-6 mark in doubles action, third-year netter Patrick Tracey has the chance to set Elmira's single-season wins record. The Bardonia, New York, native sits at 20 total wins on the year, which ranks fourth in EC history, but two additional wins would set a new program record. One win in either singles or doubles this weekend would place him in a four-way tie for the record, a milestone Tracey reached last season.

SCOUTING FISHER: After opening the 2016-17 season with six straight losses, the Cardinals are back on track with six wins in their last eight matches and enter tomorrow's bout riding a four-match winning streak. St. John Fisher has already clinched an Empire 8 postseason berth with a 5-2 league record and will head into the four-team tournament as the third seed. 2016 Empire 8 All-Conference First-Team honoree Kevin Kulawiec is back for his junior year as the Cardinals' ace. He is 6-2 at the first singles position this season and sports a 5-2 doubles record with Quinn Magiera at the top spot. Magiera is no slouch either, as the sophomore talent is 5-6 in singles action, which includes a 5-2 mark at the No. 2 position.

ALL-TIME SERIES: Saturday's contest between the two conference foes will mark the 32nd all-time meeting. The Cardinals boast a lopsided 26-5 lead in the series and enter the contest with three consecutive wins over the Soaring Eagles. Elmira's last win against Fisher dates back to the 2013-14 season, when the Purple and Gold clipped the Cards on the final day of the Flower City Tournament by a 5-3 final score.
