PINE VALLEY, N.Y. --
Elmira College men's tennis was in a prime position to secure its second Empire 8 Conference victory of the season, but after winning two of the three doubles points, the Soaring Eagles dropped five of the six singles matches en route to a 6-3 loss to Nazareth College. It marked the first time this year the Purple and Gold have lost after claiming two of the three doubles points.

Stephen Gervase '20 and Chris Konow '18 teamed up for an 8-4 win at the second doubles spot, which was shortly followed by an 8-6 victory at the third spot by Anthony Colavito '20 and Yaniv Kogan '18. Elmira nearly swept the doubles portion of today's contest, as a tiebreaker was needed to determine the winner at the top spot. Unfortunately, EC's duo of Patrick Tracey '18 and Theo Tran '20 came up just short in the breaker, 8-6 (7-4), as the Purple and Gold entered singles action with a 2-1 lead.

After suffering a close loss in doubles, Tracey responded well in his singles match at the third position with a routine straight-set victory, 6-2, 6-1. With the win, Tracey extended his singles win streak to three matches, as the Elmira men took a 3-1 lead.

The Golden Flyers answered with a pair of straight-set wins of their own at the first and fourth spots to level the match at 3-3.

After dropping the first set, 6-4, at the No. 2 position, Colavito rallied and took the second set by an identical 6-4 score. With the outcome of the match still not determined, he and his counterpart from Nazareth played out a full third set. Despite a valiant effort, Colavito dropped the third set, 6-4, which put the Golden Flyers on top, 4-3.

Nazareth would go on to claim a straight-set win at sixth singles to clinch the match, before Kogan dropped a hard-fought three-setter at the fifth spot, 6-1, 3-6, 10-5.
